Custom made treatment plans are developed incorporating manual skills, modalities and functional retraining. Lymphedema Care

Our New Milford office also provides specialized care for Lymphedema. The office is recognized as a national lymphedema center. Lymphedema occurs when the ability of the lymphatic system, which transports excess fluid, is inadequate. It may be congenital, or the result of surgery, radiation, chemotherapy or accidental trauma. Symptoms include swelling, usual in limb, along with sensations ranging from tightness and heaviness to shooting pains.

Our program is designed to reduce swelling, improve function, decrease the risk of infection, reduce pain and provide patient self-care education. We practice complete decongestive therapy which is the most effective, least invasive approach to treatment. It includes a complete evaluation, skin hygiene, manual lymph drainage through light, rhythmic massage, compression bandaging and remedial exercise. The following links provide additional information.

Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic Therapy is ideal for persons with lymphedema, but anyone who has sustained a recent injury, is recovering from surgery, or has a long-standing injury that has affected functional movement can benefit.

Because of the water's buoyancy allows greater ease of movement, stress on joints and supporting muscles during exercise is reduced. The benefits of aquatic therapy may include increased flexibility and strength, along with improvements to circulation and gait. As muscles gain strength, patients are able to transition to land exercise.

Our onsite, 20' by 24' pool is maintained at a temperature of 90 degrees for therapeutic treatment. Locker rooms and showers are available.
